The Naryn trolleybus is the main inner-city public transport in the Kyrgyz city of Naryn and one of three trolleybus operators in Kyrgyzstan. It runs on a line with a length of about 6.7 kilometers.

history

The urban area of Naryn has a characteristic expansion in east-west direction, which corresponds to the inner-city course of the river Naryn . As a result, despite the relatively small population of around 40,000 people, the traffic behavior of the population is concentrated along the main axis, which is formed by uliza Lenina in the entire city street network. For this purpose, the technical infrastructure for the trolleybus operation was built in 1994.

The trolleybus service was opened on December 13, 1994, according to other information, not until December 30, 1994. The depot is located in the west of the city a little south of uliza Lenina, the end stop was at the junction from this. It was turned in the depot. The depot itself consists only of one area with a simple catenary loop. A workshop building was built to the shell state, but never completed.

The route of the trolleybus line runs along uliza Lenina to the city center and past the bus station to the eastern terminus "Moskovsky", where the trunk road to Kochkor branches off to the north. The highest geographical point within the trolleybus line is located in this area at an altitude of around 2070 meters. The route was around 4.6 kilometers long, and the connecting route to the depot was around 300 meters.

In the first years of operation, up to five trolleybuses were in use. Due to a lack of financial support and problems with vehicle maintenance, the number of vehicles was reduced, and in 2008 there was only one trolleybus running around every hour on the route. In May 2008 operations had to be stopped completely.

However, the financing for further operation was subsequently secured. In addition, the line at the western end was extended by around 2.1 kilometers to the final stop “Raimilizija” during the shutdown period. The section to the depot, which was not previously served by passengers, has only been a branch line since then. At the junction, the contact line switches were only connected to the contact line in the direction of Raimilizija – Moskowski, if necessary the branch contact lines are used for both directions.

In September 2008, operations were resumed on the route, which has now been extended to 6.7 kilometers. Since then, up to three trolleybuses have been in use again.

Vehicle use

In Naryn only trolleybuses of the Russian type ZiU-9 (ZiU-682) were and are in use. They were used and taken over from Bishkek at different times . In 2010 there were five ZiU-9 with the numbers 007 to 011 in the operating stock , of which the trolleybuses 007 to 009 and 011 belong to the older subtype ZiU-682V and the 010 to the subtype ZiU-682G . Some of these trolleybuses were previously in use with the company numbers from Bishkek. In 2013 two ZiU-9s were again taken over from Bishkek, they kept the company numbers 1116 and 1508 used there. The total number of ZiU-9s that had been in service in Naryn is not known retired. In October 2017, two more ZiU-9s were taken over from Bishkek. The ZiU-9 010 as the last trolleybus that existed before 2013 was then retired.
