history

West wing

The school was built from 1897 to 1898 for around 150,000 marks (around 1,100,000 euros today). The first headmaster was Ludwig Curt Alfred Layritz. The number of students at the opening was around 700. In the first ten years, the number of pupils increased rapidly, which led to the fact that in 1908 the west wing was built for 100,000 marks (around 600,000 euros today) in which the auditorium on the second floor, which is still in use today , was built. Ten new classrooms were also added through the west wing.

In 1909 the number of students was just under 1200, for which 20 teachers were responsible.

One year after the 100th school anniversary in 1998, extensive renovation measures began in large parts of the school. In order to be able to continue teaching, the renovation was divided into three construction phases. In the course of the renovation measures, modern specialist rooms for the natural sciences chemistry, biology and physics were set up, and utility rooms, a music room, a technical room and a climbing frame were also built. The renovation work was not completed until 2009, with interruptions.

From the 2013/14 school year, the school became a secondary school in the Saxon school system.

School partnership

Since 2009 there has been an active school partnership between the Weinböhla Oberschule and the grammar school of the Polish municipality of Granowo . Every year there is a one-week student exchange between the two schools, with the two schools alternating each year with regard to sending and accommodating students.
