Upper Senegal and Niger (French: Haut Sénégal et Niger ) was a colony within French West Africa that existed from 1904 to 1920. It emerged from the colony of Senegambia and Niger . In 1911 Niger became its own military district, Upper Volta (today Burkina Faso ) in 1919 its own colony and the remaining territory in 1920 to French Sudan , today's Mali .

Bamako was the capital of Upper Senegal and Niger .
