Ordinary jurisdiction (Luxembourg)

The courts of ordinary jurisdiction in Luxembourg are charged with exercising judicial power.

The Supreme Court

At the top of the ordinary jurisdiction is the Supreme Court (Cour supérieure de justice). This is divided into the Court of Cassation (Cour de cassation), the Court of Appeal (Cour d'appel) and the General Prosecutor's Office (Parquet général). 

District Courts

There are two judicial districts in Luxembourg , one in Luxembourg and one in Diekirch . This includes a public prosecutor's office.

The district court is generally responsible for actions with a value in dispute over € 10,000 and only responsible for things that have been expressly assigned to it by law.

Courts of justice

The three Luxembourg courts of justice have their seat in Luxembourg, Esch an der Alzette (judicial district Luxembourg) and Diekirch (judicial district Diekirch).

Labor courts

Labor courts are also located at the seat of the peace courts; their jurisdiction extends to matters arising from employment contracts and training contracts.
