Chief helmsman

The head helmsman was a rank used in both the civil and military navies.

In the civilian sector ( merchant marine ), the chief helmsman was the first helmsman on a sailing ship . The degree was later extended to officers on board airships .

In the navy of the "Third Reich" , senior helmsman designated a NCO rank of senior sergeant in the helmsman's career. Corresponding ranks of equal rank were z. B. Senior machinist (machinist career) and Oberbootsmann (seaman career). In the German Navy, these ranks are uniformly called Oberbootsmann .
