Oblates (OMI)

The Oblates (OMI) are a religious institute of diocesan law .

history

On September 14, 1997, some young women in Madrid began a religious community along the lines of the Oblates of the Immaculate Virgin Mary . In 1998 the young community was officially recognized for the first time, although not yet as a religious institute. In 1999 the young women began the novitiate year . During this time they revised the statutes and rules of the Oblates so that the Archbishop of Madrid could recognize the community as a religious institute of diocesan law. On September 9, 2001, the first Oblates took their vows, four oblates temporal and four oblates perpetual, the following year the first general chapter took place.

Religious sisters, communities and leadership

In 2010 there were 17 sisters from six nations in the community. They live according to the charism of Eugene von Mazenod and the model of the Oblate missionaries. The community has two communities in Madrid . General Superior is Marimar Gómez OMI. The community currently (2016) includes four young German women.
