Obleidorf
As Obleidorf one was in southern Germany until the early modern village called that a cathedral chapter was dutiable or monastery. The word is derived from the Middle Latin oblaia , a term for donations to spiritual foundations or monasteries. (Latin oblatus, for: "given, offered") In old chronicles the word often appears in relation to Bamberg .
In spite of this dependency, some Obleidörfer were able to achieve a conditional autonomy and regulate their local affairs in a statute or village order. The presence of defenses such as those in Kemmern , which is 6 km north of Bamberg am Main, was helpful for such efforts .
The economic ties between the Obleidörfer and the respective monastery mostly ended around 1800, when many church institutions were withdrawn from the state or secularized .
