Oblivians

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Oblivians were a garage rock band from Memphis , Tennessee in the 1990s . Their music is a mixture of punk rock , rockabilly , rhythm'n'blues and also gospel since "... Play 9 Songs with Mr Quintron", their last album before the breakup (1998). All three members took turns playing all instruments and vocals (also during their performances). They used two guitars and a drum kit as instruments.

The band consisted of Greg Oblivian (Greg Cartwright), Jack Oblivian (Jack Yarber) and Eric Oblivian (Eric Friedl). Using their band name as their last name, they adopted from the Ramones .

Greg and Jack Oblivian also played together in The Compulsive Gamblers, a more conventional garage rock / rhythm'n'blues band.

Eric Oblivian founded his own label Goner Records.

In 2009, The Oblivians got together after various reunion shows since their separation and toured as co-headliners with The Gories - who also got back together - in Europe. Additional shows were booked for 2010 in the United States. In 2013 the album "Desperation" was released with the same line-up. The band will tour the USA in fall 2013.
