Obrogation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Obrogation is a term used in canon law . It refers to the partial repeal or amendment of a legal norm or an enactment by a newer norm.

The CIC regulates here in Can. 53:

“When decrees contradict one another, the particular decree takes precedence over the general ones in those things which are expressed in a particular way; if the decrees are special or general in the same way, the later cancels the earlier, insofar as it contradicts this. "
