The Observatoire de la Sorbonne is an observatory set up by the Sorbonne Université for its students. The tower in which the facility is located was built between 1885 and 1901 as part of the renovation of the Sorbonne. The tower is 39 meters high, has an upper and a lower dome and contains other rooms. The upper dome houses the telescope , while the lower one houses optical workshops where amateur astronomers can make mirrors. A meridian circle used to be installed there. The tower is operated by the Société astronomique de France and is available for sightseeing tours and amateur observations.

Telescopes

The observatory originally had an equatorially mounted telescope made by Raymond Augustin Mailhat with a diameter of 241 mm and a focal length of 3755 mm. The device was handed over to the Paris Observatory in 1909 .

In 1980, an equatorially mounted refractor with a diameter of 153 mm and a focal length of 2300 mm was installed in the upper dome . The telescope is owned by the Société astronomique de France . It was built in 1935 and was initially installed in the Observatoire de la rue Serpente on the roof of the company's former headquarters (28 rue Serpente).
