Oburu Odinga

Oburu Ngona Odinga (born October 15, 1943 ) is a Kenyan politician .

biography

Odínga, son of Kenya's first Vice-President Oginga Odinga and older brother of the current Prime Minister Raila Odinga , completed a degree in economics , which he completed with a Master of Science (M.Sc.Econ.). Later his doctorate he became Philosophiae Doctor (Ph.D.) in Economics in Moscow and graduated from Applied courses in public finance at the Kenya Institute of Administration.

He began his professional career in 1971 as the head of administrative assistant at the Kisumu City Council . He then was general manager of LUTATCO between 1974 and 1980. He began his political career in 1974 as a member of the city council of Kisumu, of which he was a member until 1979. Between 1981 and 1994 he worked as an economist in the State Ministry for Planning, National Development and Vision 2030.

In 1994 he was elected Member of Parliament , in which he has since represented the constituency of Bondo . Since 2006 he has been a member of the Orange Democratic Movement led by his brother Raila Odinga .

After he became Prime Minister of Kenya in April 2008, Oburu Odinga was appointed as Assistant Minister of Finance.
