Obut (actually: La Boule Obut ) is a French sporting goods company that specializes in the development, manufacture and sale of pétanque balls. The company is the market leader in this sector with a share of 80%.
history
The company was founded in Saint-Bonnet-le-Château , France, in 1955 by Frédéric Bayet and Antoine Dupuy. In 1958, Jean Souvignet joined the company as the third entrepreneur. Right from the start, they produced steel pétanque balls under the registered trademark Obut . In 1981 the company was transferred to the La Boule Obut public limited company . To this day it is run by descendants of the founding family.
