Oderfeld

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Oderfeld is part of the village of Barbis . Before it was transferred to the village, large parts of today's residential area belonged to the domain as an agricultural area, which went back to the former court yard of the former Scharzfels office . Another part was for a long time under the mining authority in Clausthal (today Clausthal-Zellerfeld ). A rifle manufacture was built on this property around 1736–1737, but a few years later it moved to Herzberg am Harz to a location below the Welfenschloss .

The location on the Oderfeld temporarily became the seat of a forestry office. Later various companies settled here due to the hydropower that is still used today. A wood screw factory, a pearl mill, various machine productions and a company headquarters of the Deig family have been handed down. The production of wooden goods and furniture on the site are also known.

In the early 19th century, the company was run by Lorenz Schöttler . This technician and businessman produced machines for textile processing in Freiheit , today's district of Osterode am Harz . Under his leadership, some of the first steam engines built in what was then the Kingdom of Hanover were built on the site on the Oderfeld .
