The
Hanseatic city of Stralsund, built in 1996 at the Oder shipyard

The company goes back to three shipbuilding companies. These were on the one hand the Fürstenberg / Oder shipyard founded in 1896 , on the other hand the Zock shipyard founded around 1900 and the third the Luise Schiffahrtsgesellschaft in Wroclaw repair shop that was established around 1940 .

In 1946 the three shipyards were merged to form the Fürstenberg ship repair company of the Soviet State Oderschiffahrts-Aktiengesellschaft (SSOAG). In 1949 700 people were employed. On April 1, 1952, the company was returned to the GDR and renamed VEB Schiffswerft Fürstenberg / Oder . Due to the incorporation of the city of Fürstenberg into Eisenhüttenstadt, another renaming took place on November 13, 1961, this time to the name VEB Oderwerft Eisenhüttenstadt . At the turn of 1961/62 the shipyard had around 500 employees. Soon afterwards, in November 1963, shipbuilding at the shipyard ended with the Grabow harbor tug . On January 1, 1970, the shipyard was incorporated into the Eisenhüttenstadt division of the Berlin yacht shipyard . In 1983 the workforce comprised 520 people. In the years between the war and in 1990 came at the shipyard in 2407 ships and other mostly non-powered watercraft (mostly barges of various types), which the company become the main supplier of the GDR - inland waterways made in terms of production volume.

On June 1, 1990, the shipyard left the shipbuilding association and operated as an independent company under the name Oderwerft Eisenhüttenstadt GmbH . In 1999 the company went bankrupt and was then taken over by the former employee Elke Ruchatz. Since then, the company in Eisenhüttenstadt has been operating under the name Neue Oderwerft . In 2010 there were 40 employees. Today the company deals with repairs, conversions and the construction of inland vehicles of all kinds and manufactures steel and aluminum constructions.
