Odette Bancilhon
Odette Bancilhon (born September 22, 1908 , † 1998 ) was a French astronomer .
Life
Bancilhon was best known for the discovery of (1333) Cevenola , an asteroid in the main belt . She discovered him on February 20, 1934 at the Center de recherche en astronomie, astrophysique et géophysique in Algiers , where she did research in the 1930s and 1940s. In 1950 she moved to the Observatoire de Strasbourg . Later she accompanied her husband Alfred Schmitt to the observatory in Quito , the capital of Ecuador . In 1964 she retired. After the marriage she called herself Odette Schmitt-Bancilhon.
Honors
The asteroid (1713) Bancilhon , discovered by the French astronomer Louis Boyer in Algiers on September 27, 1951 , was named in her honor.
