Odezenne (formerly called "O2zen") is a French band from Bordeaux . Even if their music is largely shaped by rap, it has a strong eclectic character, which uses samples and has elements from electro and alternative rock, but also from jazz and chanson.

For this reason the band refuses to be assigned to a special music genre. She doesn't want to be pigeonholed.

Founded by songwriter Alix (alias Al) and songwriter Mattia (alias Merlin) - two childhood friends - the band was soon joined by Jacques (alias Jacob) and DJ Lodjeez.

In November 2008, their first album, Sans Chantilly , was released, which received great praise from both the public and the trade press. Since then, the album OVNI has been released in March 2011 ( re-edited a year later under the Louis XVI edition with 5 additional tracks), the EP Rien in May 2014 (as a foretaste of the new album announced for January 2015) and in November 2015 the third album Dolziger Str. 2  appeared.

biography

Alix, originally from Île-de-France , and Mattia, originally from Milan , met for the first time in the seventh grade during their school days together and at that time they formed a band. They called themselves O2zen (which has a phonetic similarity to Odezenne in French), based on the name of their headmaster at the time: "Odezenne, that was the name of our old headmaster, we used it in a freestyle, that made us laugh, so we kept him, "explains Alix. Influenced by the music of Jimi Hendrix , the duo did not last long and so they parted ways as each went on to study for himself.

A few years later their paths cross again in 2004. Alix has meanwhile devoted himself to rap and is considering a demanding music project. With the addition of Jacques, who comes from Choisy-le-Roi and dropped out of school to work at the Rungis wholesale market, near Paris, and DJ Lodjeez, the band regroups and is now called Odezenne .

You start with the songwriting. In 2007 their first concert took place in an underground bar called Inca in Bordeaux. The bar is known for having local bands performing there for the first time. The concert is well attended, which is why there will be three more concerts in the same bar. They then decide to record an album, plan further concerts and set up their own record company under the name Universell in order to remain independent. In November 2008 they released their first album Sans Chantilly , which was received with great praise from both the public and the trade press.

On the occasion of their 100th concert in the Vivres de l'art in Bordeaux, the band will release a live EP in October 2013 and announce their departure to Berlin.

On April 21, 2014 the band will release the title “ Rien ” from their EP of the same name, which was recorded during their trip to Berlin and will be released on May 26, 2014. The music video for " Je veux te baiser " by director Romain Winkler gets a lot of attention, especially on social networks, because of the lyrics. During an interview with Crumb Magazin in May 2014, Alix announced that DJ Lodjeez had become a father before the Berlin trip, which is why he could not work on the EP and was canceled on the tour. Therefore, he temporarily left the band.

On March 10, 2015 they will perform at the Olympia in Paris to test their fame.

useful information

For many, Odezenne is contributing to the “rebirth” of French rapeseed and for others to the emergence of a new French scene.

With "Odezenne auf Abruf" a completely new form of booking is being created. By creating open concert venues on Facebook, some major cities couldn't help but have the independent band perform. The idea was successfully implemented in Lille, Marseille, Toulouse, Montpellier and Lyon.
