The Odulphuskerk is an evangelical uniate parish church in Meliskerke in the municipality of Veere in the Dutch province of Zeeland . It is known for its late Gothic tower , which sagged to the west.

history

Meliskerke was parish off from St. Willibrord to Westkapelle before 1235 . The tower, the nave and the south aisle of the church were built around 1400. Until the Reformation the church was dedicated to Saint Odulf of Utrecht . In the course of the Reformation, the choir, which no longer had a liturgical function in Calvinist worship , was demolished . The walled up triumphal arch was still externally visible in the east wall until 2011. In contrast to the Calvinist tradition, however, the name of the original church patron, St. Odulf, has never been forgotten in Meliskerke. Damage caused during the Eighty Years' War was finally repaired at the beginning of the 17th century, with the nave and aisle being brought under one roof. A portal on the south side dates from 1769. A new sacristy was added during a renovation in 1959. In the course of a further renovation and extensive expansion, the sacristy was torn down again in 2011, the walled-in triumphal arch was opened and an annex was added to the nave.

The church belongs to the Protestantse Gemeente Biggekerke / Meliskerke, which belongs to the uniate Protestantse Kerk in Nederland , which was created in 2004 . The congregation is also considered to be part of the Dutch Bible Belt .

Organs

There are two organs in the church : one is a main organ, built in 1978 by the organ builder Pels & Van Leeuwen; This instrument was in the now closed Ichthuskerk in Meliskerke until 2011. On the other hand, there is a historic organ in the Odulphuskerk, which was built in 1744 by the organ builder Peter Weidtmann (Ratingen) as a house organ. At the beginning of the 20th century it was sold to Meliskerke. The abrasive loading instrument has 8 Manual register (Cc 3 : Holpijp 8 ', Prestant 4', Quint 2 2 / 3 ', Octaaf 2', Mixtuur III-IV, Sesquialter II, Cornet III, Dulciaan 8 ') and is provided with a tremolo fitted. The playing and stop actions are mechanical.
