Open door (climbing)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In climbing , an open door denotes a special unstable position of equilibrium in vertical or overhanging wall areas. This causes the loosening of a hand in order to continue to grip (gripping hand), triggering a lateral swinging away around the longitudinal axis of the body, in which the foot on the side of the gripping hand is released and rotates outwards together with the entire side of the gripping hand body. According to the image of the open door, the holding hand and the foot on the same side act as the door's hinges , while the door opens by itself away from the wall or rock, following gravity. To avoid an open door, techniques such as changing feet, twisting , hooking (heelhook, toehook ) or Egyptians are used.
