Open time

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In adhesive processes and techniques, the open time is the permissible time span from the beginning of the application of the adhesive to the joining of the parts to be joined .

process

The parts to be joined (the parts that are to be bonded to one another by gluing) must be joined together within the open time . The open time is variable and depends on both the adhesive formulation and the material of the parts to be bonded, the temperature conditions with regard to the materials and the environment. With certain bonding techniques, for example, preheating the parts to be bonded can extend the open time and improve the adhesion .
