Offermann Foundation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Offermann Foundation is a non-profit foundation founded in 1443 and based in Wesel .

history

The foundation was established by the couple Dietrich and Luitgard Offermann in the Lower Rhine Hanseatic city of Wesel through a letter of foundation dated July 2, 1443 . The founders were among the wealthiest families in town and first set up accommodation for poor people in Wesel. Despite the relatively high material prosperity of the Hanseatic city, there was an underclass there in the late Middle Ages, which possibly included around 20 percent of the city's population and lived in very precarious conditions. The Offermann Foundation was one of several foundations that worked for the well-being of poor, sick and old people in Wesel. In the late 16th and first half of the 17th century, many foundations disappeared, but the Offermann Foundation was preserved as one of three Wesel foundations.

It is recognized as a non-profit foundation by the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, founded in 1443. Aid for the elderly and charitable purposes are specified as the purpose. The foundation supervision lies with the district government of Düsseldorf . The foundation is a partner in a retirement home on Willibrordiplatz in Wesel. As of 2009, she owned 60 apartments in Wesel and invested in building 22 more apartments. There are also other properties on the Lower Rhine. Offermannstrasse, located in downtown Wesel, was named after the founders of the foundation.
