Office of Secure Transportation

The Office of Secure Transportation or OST is a US agency based in Washington, DC and was founded in 1975. It is responsible for the safe transport of nuclear weapons and similar material on the ground.

The agency employs 600 people and reports to the United States Department of Energy and the National Nuclear Security Administration . Since it was founded in 1975, it has transported radioactive material over a hundred million miles without an accident that released the material (as of November 2010).

There are strict regulations for the consumption of alcohol for employees : no more alcohol may be consumed eight hours before the start of work. Between 2007 and 2009, sixteen violations of this rule were found.
