The Ogasawara National Park ( Japanese. 小 笠原 国立 公園 , Ogasawara Kokuritsu Kōen ) is located in the Kantō Region , Tokyo Prefecture . The 6629 hectare national park was established on October 16, 1972. The park is named after the Ogasawara Islands , which were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO on June 24, 2011 . The subtropical Ogasawara Islands are about 1000 km south of the main Japanese islands.
Flora and fauna
Since the islands were never connected to the mainland, unique animal and plant species could develop here.

- Columba janthina nitens (violet pigeon)
- Pteropus pselaphon (Bonin flying fox )
