Oggenfuss
Oggenfuss is a Swiss family name that appeared in various scripts as early as the Middle Ages .
Origin and history
The original origin of the name has not yet been conclusively clarified. An old script speaks of a Hans Oggenfuss who is mentioned as the tailor of the reformer Zwingli . The name most likely comes from the Zurich area . Most people with this family name still live there today.
Many families of this name have also settled in the suburbs of the city. The Catholic families left the reformed Zurich and settled in Rudolfstetten (today Canton Aargau ).
The connection to the name Okenfuss also remains unclear. Only a German natural scientist named Lorenz Okenfuß (1779-1851) is mentioned. But he later dropped the "foot" ending and from then on called himself only Lorenz Oken.
The following communities around Zurich are considered to be citizens' places of the families: Rudolfstetten , Birmensdorf , Küsnacht ZH , Uitikon ; no more are known.
Some descendants of Oggenfuss who emigrated around 1900 live on the east coast of the USA , especially in Delaware .
