Oh, it smells good is a German Christmas carol that was composed and written by Christel Ulbrich .

content

The song is about baking cookies in the run-up to Christmas. This describes how the dough for the cookies is stirred in. In each stanza the addition of an ingredient is named. The song makes no explicit reference to Christian content and was therefore often played in the media and at Christmas markets in the GDR .

history

The song was written around 1949. It was first published in 1957 under the title Christmas Bakery in the children's magazine Fröhlich sein und singen .

In 1970 the song was published in the version of the Rundfunk-Kinderchor Leipzig on the Christmas LP Soon now is Christmas time of the GDR label Eterna . It was also included in various music textbooks and song books.
