Christel Ulbrich

Christel Ulbrich (born October 15, 1908 at Tharandt ; † March 24, 1996 in Bautzen ) was a German dance therapist , dance and music teacher. She is the composer and songwriter of the Christmas carol Oh, It Smells Good , which was first published in the GDR .

Life

At 16, she was threatened with stiffening of her spine . She danced anyway and taught dance in state and church kindergartens , in old people's homes and homes for the deaf and dumb, in after-school care centers and homes in the Bautzen and Bischofswerda districts .

In 1960 she was banned from working for state institutions in the GDR because her student folk dance group had been invited to the West . At the age of 80 she was still in charge of dance groups in Bautzen and Dresden, among others .
