Oil Imperium is a German business simulation that was developed and published in 1989 for the PC , C64 , Atari ST and the Amiga by Reline Software . The game was marketed internationally under the name Black Gold.

Course of the game and structure

The idea of the game is to mine and sell as much oil as possible and to defeat the opponents with all possible fair and unfair means. A move always lasts a month, with each action in the game costing one or more days.

The game is designed for four players who can either be played by a human ( hot- seat) or the computer. The players take over the management of one of the companies "Interoil", "All American", "Transoil" or "Explora Inc.".

There are four different game objectives to choose from: three-year game, game of longest company survival in the game, game up to 80% market share of a player or game up to $ 60 million. There are certain differences in the objectives of the mission. So takes z. For example, the manual drilling for the mission objective “be the first $ 60 million” longer than for the other missions.

There are eight oil production areas to choose from in which licenses, tanks and oil fields can be purchased: Alaska, North America, Central America, South America, Europe, USSR, the Gulf region and Indochina .

You can get expert reports on the likely yield of an oil field and buy this field - with good expectations. You then have the choice of drilling manually or having the computer do this (for a fee).

There is the possibility to disturb the opponents through sabotage. This happens z. B. by setting fire to the oil fields, destroying the tanks, manipulating the balance sheets, etc. To protect against such moves, a player can hire a security company.

Three types of action sequences can take place during the course of the game: There can be delays in the sale of oil, which means that you have to lay the pipes of a pipeline yourself, faster than a computer opponent building in parallel. In addition, there is manual drilling, in which the deviation of the drill head from the center point has to be corrected, and the extinguishing of burning oil wells with dynamite . The latter can also be done by a specialist named “Ted Redhair” (based on the famous Red Adair ).
