Ojek

Ojek is waiting for customers

An ojek is the predominant term for a rental motorcycle with a driver in the western part of Java . In Indonesia an ojek is a common and frequently used form of passenger transport .

The price also includes the driver and depends on the duration of the journey and / or the distance covered. There is no uniform price setting, the fares are regional, but also very different individually. In general, Ojeks are considerably more expensive in big cities like Bandung or Jakarta than in the provinces. The drivers of Ojeks are exclusively men who, independently of institutions, earn a living for themselves and possibly their families with their services.

Ojeks do not always have the best reputation among the population, as they can exploit the ignorance of their passengers commercially as well as criminally to a greater extent than the state-organized Anggkota drivers . Ojeks are usually organized in groups at Ojek stations, where they draw the attention of passers-by by calling or waving.
