Okamoto Kidō

Okamoto Kidō ( Japanese 岡本 綺 堂 ; actually: Okamoto Keiji ( 岡本 敬 二 ); born November 15, 1872 in Tokyo ; † March 1, 1939 ) was a Japanese playwright.

The son of a samurai serving the Tokugawa family wrote nearly 200 kabuki dramas. His first piece, Kogane no Shachihoko Uwasa no Takanami , premiered in 1902. His play Ishin Zengo was created while working for the Nichinichi newspaper and was premiered in 1908 by Ichikawa Sadanji II's theater troupe . Other well-known pieces were Shuzenji monogatari (1911), Muromachi gosho , Sasaki Takatsuna (1914), Toribeyama shinjū (1915) and Banchō Sarayashiki (1916).
