Her classmate Shizuku tells Tokiji and Kanata that she saw a man with a giraffe head running amok in town. You don't want to believe her, but Kanata himself also has a supernatural ability: He can see particularly far. But that always comes with some side effects, so he rarely uses the ability. The next day their school is cordoned off by the police and the students are detained by a special unit, the External Intelligence and Investigation Bureau (ENUB). A schoolgirl died nearby, her head mutated into that of a snake. It was not Shizuku, as the two friends learn to their relief, but the friend of the man with the giraffe head. The police now fear that the phenomenon caused by a parasite will spread among the students.

When Kanata is noticed because of his ability, he is arrested and examined by the special forces. He is one of the few people who receive a special ability from the parasite and who do not become ill: an Okitenemuru. He can also recognize the sick, who otherwise only reveal themselves shortly before their death through an outbreak of violence, after the parasite has already left them. So this is how Kanata is supposed to help the police. But he hesitates to share his observations because those identified are killed to eradicate the parasite.
