Okram Ibobi Singh (born June 19, 1948 in Thoubal , Manipur ) is an Indian politician ( Indian National Congress ) from the state of Manipur. He was Chief Minister (Head of Government) Manipur from 2002 to 2017 .

Okram Ibobi Singh belongs to the Meitei , the majority people of Manipur, and is Hindu . Okram Ibobi Singh moved into Manipur's parliament for the first time in 1984 as an independent candidate from the Khangabo constituency . In the next election in 1990 he defended his constituency, this time as a candidate for the Congress Party . In the elections in 1995 and 2000, Okram Ibobi Singh was defeated in his constituency by the candidate of the Manipur People's Party , but in 2002 he managed to re- enter . As a result of the election won by the Congress party, Okram Ibobi Singh was appointed the new Chief Minister and sworn in on March 7, 2002. He was confirmed in office in the 2007 and 2012 elections. In the 2017 election in Manipur, the Congress Party lost its previous absolute majority in the parliament of Manipur. As a result, BJP top candidate Nongthombam Biren Singh was elected as the new Chief Minister of Manipur on March 15, 2017 at the head of a coalition government.

In 2008 Okram Ibobi Singh survived a bomb attack on his house, which the separatist organization People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak ​​claimed , unharmed.
