The former October Palace of Culture ( Ukrainian Жовтневий палац культури ) today called International Center of Culture and Art ( Ukrainian Міжнародний центр культури і мистецтв ) and is a cultural building near the Maidan Nezalezhnosti in Ukrainian capital Kiev .
The building in the style of late classicism , which among other things houses a theater and a library with over 70,000 volumes of books, was built according to plans by the architect Vincent Beretti between 1838 and 1842. The building also has rooms for, for example, exhibitions, conferences, symposiums and seminars.
history
After severe destruction in the Second World War , the building was restored and reopened on December 24, 1957. Since then, more than 40 million people have attended the various cultural events in the building.
