Vincent Beretti ( Ukrainian Вінченцо-Савеліо-Йосиф-Антоніо Беретті Wintschenzo-Sawelio-Jossyf Antonio Beretti , ukrainisiert Вікентій Іванович Беретті Vikentiy Beretti Iwanowytsch , Russian Викентий Иванович Беретти Wikenti Ivanovich Beretti * 14. June 1781 in Rome ; † August 18 jul . / August 30,  1842 greg. In Kiev ) was a Russian and Ukrainian architect of Italian descent.

Life

He was a prominent representative of classicism in the first half of the 19th century. The architect of more than 250 projects, including the "Kiev Institute for Noble Virgins" (today October Palace ) and the "Red Building" of the Taras Shevchenko University in Kiev, studied at the Russian Academy of Art in Saint Petersburg from 1798 to 1804 , where he was professor of architecture from 1831. From 1837 until his death, Beretti was employed at the University of Kiev .

He died at the age of 61 in Kiev and was buried there in the Baikowe cemetery . A street in Kiev is named after him. His son Oleksandr Beretti ( Ukrainian Олександр Вікентійович Беретті ; 1816–1895) was also an architect in Kiev.
