Olaf Elicki (* 1962 in Köthen ) is a German paleontologist .

Life

Elicki studied geology and palaeontology at the Bergakademie Freiberg from 1984 with a diploma in 1989 and received his doctorate there in 1992 on paleontology and sedimentary facies of Cambrian carbonates ( "Facies analysis of the Cambrian carbonates in Germany" ). Then he was a lecturer there, completed his habilitation in 2010 ( "Cambrian life in Mediterranean carbonate environments and consequences for the geological reconstruction of the early Palaeozoic Perigondwana" ) and in 2011 became professor of micropalaeontology and paleoecology at the TU Bergakademie Freiberg.

He is mainly concerned with micropaleontology, paleoecology and the facies analysis of marine sediments of the Old Paleozoic (especially Cambrian and Ordovician with a focus on small shelly fossils, trace fossils and ecosystems) and the High Cretaceous (focus on foraminifera and biostratigraphy). The regional focus of his research work is Central and South Europe, the Middle East and North Africa.

He is a voting member of several international stratigraphic Cambrian working groups of the International Commission on Stratigraphy and editor of the Paläontologie-Stratigraphie-Fazies ( psf ) series of Freiberg research books as well as co-editor of other specialist journals. In addition to numerous scientific articles, Elicki edited specialist volumes and published a textbook on historical geology. He established Freiberg TU as a center for international Cambrian research.
