Olav-V-Land is an area on the Svalbard island of Spitsbergen .

geography

Olav-V-Land lies to the east of the main island of Svalbard. It is bounded in the east by the Hinlopenstrasse , which separates Spitzbergen from Nordaustlandet . There are still some islands offshore, including Wilhelmøya . In the southeast of Olav-V-Land lies the narrow and often frozen Heleysundet . If you cross this, you reach the island of Barentsøya . In the south, Olav-V-Land borders the innermost foothills of the Storfjord . The glaciers Negribreen and Akademikerbreen form the border to Sabine-Land . Transparentbreen, Opalbreen and Nordenskiöldbreen form the border with Bünsow-Land in the southwest. To the east, Dickson Land lies on the strait between the Billefjorden and the Wijdefjorden . At the southern tip of the Wijdefjorden is the Indre Wijdefjorden National Park . The northern border to Ny-Friesland is formed by Lomonosovfonna, Keplerbreen and Oslobreen. To the northeast, Olav-V-Land is bounded by the Vaigattbogen.

Olav-V-Land is uninhabited and largely covered by glaciers, the largest of which is the Kvitbreen. In the southwest there are some routes that are frequently used by tourists, namely from Longyearbyen to Pyramiden and Newtontoppen .
