Olavsrose
The Olavsrose , also known as Olav's knot , is an ornament used in Norwegian folk art , especially in Hallingdal and on the west coast. There are two traditional forms; one consists of three loops intertwined in the manner of the Borromean rings , the other consists of a single continuous line. It can symbolize protection, but also cohesion and keeping secrets.
In the period 1901–1945 the ornament was depicted on the back of Norwegian banknotes with the values of 5 and 10 kroner .
