Oldřich Vlasák (born November 26, 1955 in Hradec Králové ) is a Czech politician ( ODS ). He was a member of the European Parliament from 2004 to 2014 and was Vice-President there since January 18, 2012.

Life

Vlasák attended the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the Czech Technical University in Prague and became an engineer at the Institute of Technology and Environment. He worked as a research assistant at the Research Institute for Food and Refrigeration Technology and at Kovoprojekt in Prague. From 1989 to 1993 he was director of Bohemian Waste Management, after which he was director of East Bohemian Airport until 1998. He was also a volunteer for the mountain rescue service .

Vlasák was a long-time member of the Executive Board of the ODS. In 1994 he was elected to the city council of Hradec Králové for the first time. From 1998 to 2004 he was mayor of his hometown. He was also chairman of the Federation of Cities and Towns of the Czech Republic, where he was responsible for international cooperation. In 2004 he was elected to the European Parliament for the first time.

Before the Czech Republic joined the European Union , Vlasák was Chairman of the NUTS II Northeast Region and a member of the Committee of the Regions. In 2000 he became executive chairman of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions. He has been a member of the International Association of Local Authorities since 2006 and is also a member of the World Association of United Cities and Local Authorities.

Period 2009 to 2014 Vlasák is in the European Conservatives and Reformists Group and one of the Vice-Presidents of the European Parliament. He is a member of the Presidium of the European Parliament , the Committee on Regional Development and the delegation to the ACP-EU Joint Parliamentary Assembly. He is a substitute in the Committee on Transport and Tourism , in the delegation for relations with the Mercosur countries and in the delegation to the Euro-Latin American Parliamentary Assembly.
