The Old Jail (English for: "Old Prison ") or Gordo Jail and Mayor's Office (English for: "Prison and seat of the mayor of the city of Gordo") is a historic building in the city of Gordo in Pickens County (Alabama) in the USA .
The building was erected in 1914 as a two-story brick building in the style typical of public buildings at the time. Until about 1930 there were two prison cells and the mayor's office on the ground floor and a courtroom on the upper floor. In 1930 the city administration moved into another building, while the use as a prison continued until 1955. The building was and will continue to be called the Old Jail . a. used as a youth center , drafting office and for other communal activities. On December 17, 1974, the Old Jail was included in the National Register of Historic Places (German: "National Directory of Historic Places") and then used as an art gallery . Nowadays (2018) the Old Jail is the oldest remaining brick building in Gordo and houses a museum and the headquarters of a genealogy association .
