Old Newton House

Old Newton House is a tower house near the Scottish town of Doune in the Stirling Council Area . In 1971 the structure was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

The Tower House was built in the 16th or 17th centuries. With Inverardoch House , a mansion was built on the property in 1861 to a design by David Bryce , which replaced Newton House. The mansion was demolished in the 1950s. The present wrought iron gateway to Old Newton House originally came from Inverardoch House.

Old Newton House is on the eastern edge of Doune. The three-story building has an L-shaped floor plan. A rounded stair tower protrudes from the inside corner of the building. The southwest facade is flatly rounded. The facades are plastered with Harl . The final gable roofs are designed with stepped gables . Shortly after the Tower House was built, a one-story wing was added on the northwest side. The wrought iron gate to the gardens is from Inverardoch House.
