The Old West Salem City Hall was built in 1935 in the Art Deco style and was the town hall of West Salem, Oregon until this town was merged with Salem , the capital of the state, in 1949 . The last session of West Salem City Council was on November 7, 1949. Salem's public library was housed in the building from October 17, 1957 to 1987 and left it due to the poor structural condition at the time and a lack of financial means to repair it. For commercial use, the Old West Salem City Hall was renovated and added to the National Register of Historic Places on June 1, 1990 .
