Oliver Benson (* 1965 in Coesfeld ) is a German physicist. He is also professor for experimental physics at the Humboldt University in Berlin .

At the age of 19, he graduated from the municipal high school Nepomucenum and began studying physics a year later. In the following years he devoted himself primarily to quantum optics and received his professorship at Humboldt University in 2001. Benson gained attention in scientific circles primarily for his work with single photons . In 2006 he and his research group succeeded in representing quantum bits with light particles and in this way demonstrating the first test calculation step of a possible quantum computer .
