Olivier Darrigol

Olivier Darrigol is a French science historian.

Darrigol studied from 1975 to 1979 at the École normal supérieure (Agrégation in Physics 1978) and received his doctorate in 1982 at the University of Paris with a thesis on the history of quantum field theory (Thèse de troisième cycle). In 1992 he completed his habilitation at the University of Paris VII. Darrigol is Research Director of the CNRS in Paris and Professor at the University of Paris VII (Denis Diderot), member of the REHSEIS team (Recherches sur l'épistémologie et l'histoire des sciences exactes). He was visiting scholar at the University of California, Berkeley on several occasions .

He wrote books on the history of electrodynamics, quantum mechanics and hydrodynamics, dealt with Louis de Broglie on the connection between Henri Poincaré and Albert Einstein in the context of the emergence of the theory of relativity and the emergence of harmonic analysis (theory of Fourier series) from acoustics.

In 2004 he received the Prix ​​Grammaticakis-Neuman of the French Académie des sciences and in 2000 the Prix Pictet of the Société de physique et d'histoire naturelle de Genève.
