In the middle of the 20th century, the president of the Câmara Amarante António do Lago Cerqueira inaugurated a modern power plant in the town.
The townscape is determined by the Igreja Matriz . The patron saint of the place is St. Pelagius .
On September 29, 2013, the municipalities of Olo and Canadelo were merged to form the new municipality of União das Freguesias de Olo e Canadelo . Olo is the seat of this newly formed community.
