Olof II. Björnsson

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Olof Björnsson (* around 885 in Birka ; † 975 in Jutland ) was one of the early kings of Sweden .

Life

Björnssohn was born the son of Björn Eriksson and his wife Ingeborg of Sweden. He was Styrbjorn's father , who had the addition of the strong. After the Hervarar Saga and the Styrbjarnar þáttr Svíakappa , Olof ruled together with his brother, Erik the Victorious . Instead of proclaiming Styrbjörn as co-regent after Olof's death, Erik claimed the throne for his own unborn son, Olof Skötkonung . According to the Styrbjörns saga, Olof died of poison in his meal, so that his son grew up with his brother and his wife. The son tried at a young age to assert his claim to the throne against the uncle. He did not give in to the request, but instead sent Styrbjörn to Denmark to wage war there. He came back from there with an army and wanted to fight for his rights. He succumbed to his uncle and was either killed or overwhelmed.
