The Amtei Olten-Gösgen , also called Niederamt , consists of the two Solothurn districts of Olten and Gösgen . It comprises 26 communities with 72,400 inhabitants and, as the largest constituency, has 29 mandates for the Solothurn Cantonal Council . Since 2005 the office has been the constituency for the cantonal elections.

The canton's second nuclear power plant, the Niederamt nuclear power plant , which was planned and then dropped, alongside the Gösgen nuclear power plant until the Fukushima nuclear disaster , was named after the region.
