Oluwafemi Balogun

Oluwafemi Balogun (born 1987 ) is a Nigerian chess player with the FIDE title of International Master .

At the 2016 Zone Tournament in Accra , he finished second, earning the title of FIDE Master . A year later, he tied for first place at the 2017 Monrovia Zone Tournament , which led him to the title of FIDE International Master.

Through his achievements, he qualified for participation in the 2017 World Chess Cup in Tbilisi. He met reigning world champion Magnus Carlsen in the first round , against whom he lost both games and was eliminated.

Balogun took part in the Chess Olympiads in 2012 and 2014 with the Nigerian team. His Elo rating is 2278 (as of January 2018), which puts him in third place in the Nigerian Elo ranking. His highest rating was 2287 in November 2017.
