Origin and meaning

The name comes from Wales and means white footprint / white trail . It is formed from the Welsh ol (footprint, trace) and gwen (white, fair / honest / genuine, blessed).

In a Welsh legend, Olwen was a beautiful girl, the lover of Culhwch and the daughter of the giant Yspaddaden . Her father insisted that Culhwch pass several seemingly impossible tasks before allowing him to marry her. Culhwch was successful in all tasks.

Variants are Olwin and Olwyn.
