Luxembourg participated in the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris with an athlete. It was Luxembourg's first participation in the Olympic Games. But Michel Théato's participation as a Luxembourger is controversial. He was thought to have been French until the late 20th century, until it was found out that he was from Luxembourg, which made him actually the first medalist from Luxembourg. The IOC still lists its silver medal in the marathon for France.
