Omoa is a small port town in northern Honduras , west of Puerto Cortés . The city is located on a narrow bay of the same name near the largest bastion in Central America, the fortress of San Fernando de Omoa . The fortress was built in 1759 and used by the Spaniards to ward off pirates.
