Omori Law

The Omori law is a geophysical law discovered by Fusakichi Ōmori in 1894 , according to which pre- and aftershocks are temporally distributed around a main tremor according to a power distribution.

For foreshocks the law reads , specifying the number of foreshocks and the time of the main tremor. is an exponent .

For aftershocks, the law reads , specifying the number of aftershocks and the time of the main quake. is an exponent .

During the financial crisis of 2008/2009, individual mathematicians tried to predict the course of stock market prices according to the Omori law.
