Onassis Cultural Center
The Onassis Cultural Center ( Greek Πολιτιστικό Κέντρο Ωνάση Politistikó Kéntro Onási ), colloquially also called Stegi ( Greek roof ), is a cultural center in the Greek capital Athens . It belongs to the private Alexander Onassis Foundation .
history
The Parisian architecture firm Architecture Studio emerged as the winner from 66 submitted designs , whose design won over the jury due to the innovative facade concept. Construction began in 2006 and opened in 2011. The 3000 km² building plot was privately owned.
On an area of 18,000 km², spread over 6 floors, the Stegi offers a theater with 880 seats, an auditorium with 220 seats, a library, individually designed open spaces, as well as conference and exhibition rooms. On the roof there is a restaurant (restaurant-bar-café). There is a parking garage in the basement, which can also be used by guests.
The costs are put at 38 million euros .
